New in heatmaps: live pages, first clicks, saved views and exports

Open a heatmap on your live site, count first or last clicks, see which zones come before a conversion, and save, send or download any heatmap view.

What’s new

Cuttl heatmaps gained six features in October 2026: a heatmap that opens on your live site, first and last click maps, zone maps with conversions, a list of every clicked element including hidden ones, saved views that can be sent to Slack on a schedule, and PNG and CSV downloads. All six are live now. The first four are on every plan, saved views are on every plan (3 per site on Free), and scheduled sends and downloads are on Pro and Max.

  • Open on your site (live since 19 October): the heatmap drawn over your real page in a new tab.
  • First and last clicks, zone conversions, hidden elements, saved views and downloads (live since 14 October).

Why it matters

A heatmap helps when you can read it in context and when the people who decide see it.

Reading in context means seeing clicks on the page as visitors used it, with real menus and sliders, and knowing which clicks led somewhere. A zone with lots of clicks that never come before a purchase tells a different story from a quiet zone that most buyers touch.

Getting it to people means the same view of the same page, without rebuilding filters every Monday. A saved view keeps the page, heatmap type, device, filters and segment together, and a scheduled one posts its numbers to your team’s channel.

How it works

Each feature sits in the heatmap toolbar or side panel:

  • Open on your site: when you open a page’s heatmap, Cuttl asks where to see it. “Open on your site” opens the live page in a new tab with the heatmap over it. “Past versions” shows how the page looked on an earlier date, inside Cuttl (past versions are on Pro and Max), and a link below shows the live page in Cuttl with phone and tablet views.
  • First and last clicks: a toolbar select switches click-based views between all clicks, each pageview’s first click, or its last. First clicks show what visitors go for straight away. Last clicks show where they leave from.
  • Zone map with conversions: pick a goal or any conversion, and each zone shows how many of its clicks came before a conversion, next to the rate for the whole page. Zones with fewer than 5 clicks say there are too few to tell.
  • Every clicked element: the Top elements list ranks every clicked element on the page, including ones inside closed menus, other tabs and collapsed accordions. A Hidden now filter lists those, and clicking one shows the page as the visitor saw it.
  • Saved views: save the current view under a name and reopen it in one click (3 views per site on Free, 100 on Pro and Max). On Pro and Max, a view can also be sent every morning (yesterday’s numbers) or every Monday (the last 7 days) to the site’s Slack or webhook alert channel.
  • Downloads (Pro and Max): save the full page and its heatmap as a PNG image, with a header naming the page, view, device and filters, or the element list as a CSV.

Zone conversions show what came before a conversion, which is a correlation. To check whether a zone causes conversions, test a change to it. The guide to heatmap examples shows how to read each view.

Who it’s for

  • CRO leads: compare first clicks on a landing page with the zone map for purchases, to find the section worth testing next.
  • UX designers: use Hidden now to see which items inside a mega menu or FAQ accordion people click, and which they never open.
  • Ecommerce managers: on Pro or Max, schedule the checkout page’s scroll view every Monday and spot a drop in scroll reach the week it starts.
  • Agencies: on Pro or Max, download the heatmap PNG and element CSV for a client report, with the page and filters printed in the image header.
  • Product managers: open the pricing page’s heatmap on the live site and check the toggles and tabs as visitors use them.

By industry

  • Online stores: last clicks on product pages show whether people leave from the size guide, the reviews or the delivery note.
  • SaaS: the zone map for trial sign-ups shows which parts of the pricing page come before a sign-up and which only collect clicks.
  • Publishers and media: on Pro or Max, a morning view of the home page sent to the editorial channel shows which story slots people clicked yesterday.
  • Lead generation: first clicks on a service page show whether visitors head for the form, the phone number or the price list.

How to start in Cuttl

In app.cuttl.io, open Journey Insights, then Heatmaps, and pick a page. Choose “Open on your site” to see the heatmap on the live page, or stay in Cuttl. Then try the click select in the toolbar for first clicks, switch the type to Zone map and pick a goal, and use the bookmark icon to save the view (on Pro and Max, with a Monday send). The heatmaps section shows every heatmap type.

The live-site tab needs the Cuttl Tag on that page. An ad blocker in your own browser can stop it, and Cuttl then says the page didn’t start the heatmap. Scheduled views go to the site’s one alert channel, set in Settings, Alerts. Downloads of very long pages are cut at 25,000 pixels.

AI assistants connected through the Cuttl MCP server can read first and last clicks and the top clicked elements for a page. Saved views, downloads and the live-site tab are in the dashboard.

Common questions

What is a first click heatmap?

It shows only the first click of each pageview, so you see what visitors go for as soon as the page loads, such as the main call to action or the menu.

Can you export a heatmap?

Yes. On Cuttl’s Pro and Max plans you can download the full page heatmap as a PNG image, or the list of clicked elements as a CSV file.

Can a heatmap show clicks inside menus and tabs?

Yes. Cuttl lists clicked elements that are hidden now, and opening the heatmap on your live site lets you open menus and tabs as visitors do.

Can heatmap reports be sent to Slack?

Yes. On Cuttl’s Pro and Max plans, a saved heatmap view can be sent every morning or every Monday to the site’s Slack or webhook alert channel.

Are these features on the free plan?

Most are. The live-site heatmap, first and last clicks, zone conversions and the hidden elements list are on every plan, and Free keeps 3 saved views per site. Scheduled sends, downloads and past page versions are on Pro and Max.
