What’s new
MCP analytics means an AI assistant reads your analytics data directly through the Model Context Protocol. Cuttl now runs its own MCP server at app.cuttl.io/mcp, live on the paid plan since 13 October 2026. Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and VS Code can read a site’s heatmaps, recordings, issues and test results, and set up work in Cuttl.
This release covers several pieces that went live between 13 and 15 October:
- Sign in with your Cuttl account (OAuth), with no API key to copy.
- Assistants can build A/B, split URL, multi-page and multivariate tests and rollouts, checked against the real page.
- Assistants can set up Journey Insights: goals, funnels, segments, notes, issue triage, monitors and alerts.
- In Claude, a before-and-after preview of a test variant appears in the conversation.
- Saved heatmap views, conversions by clicked element and internal IP exclusion are available to assistants too.
Why it matters
An MCP connection removes the export step between a question and an answer. Instead of filtering a heatmap, copying numbers into a spreadsheet and pasting them into a chat, you ask “why are mobile visitors leaving the pricing page?” and the assistant reads the data itself.
Behaviour data goes further than traffic totals. Cuttl’s tools return rage and dead clicks, form drop-off, issues ranked by severity (how serious each problem is and how many visits it affects), recordings with replay links and heatmap readouts. That gives an assistant the evidence to suggest a specific fix, then draft the A/B test for it in the same conversation.
Changes go through approvals in Cuttl. Drafts never start on their own, and launches, live-test edits, custom code, deletes and anything visitors will see always need a person to approve them.
How it works
The Cuttl MCP server works like any remote MCP server: the assistant connects to it, signs in and then calls Cuttl’s tools when a question needs them. Setup takes a few steps:
- Open Connect AI in Cuttl (in the top bar or the sidebar) and pick your assistant: Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code, or Other for Claude Code and Gemini CLI.
- Click its button. For Claude, it copies the server address and opens Claude’s connectors, where you add it as a custom connector. Cursor and VS Code get a one-click install link. ChatGPT needs a paid ChatGPT plan with developer mode.
- Sign in to Cuttl and click Allow. A new connection can only read until someone grants it write permissions under AI approvals.
When an assistant builds a test, it first reads the page’s structure from a real recorded visit: headings, buttons, links, fields and images, with the same selectors the visual editor uses. Each change is checked against that page, so a change aimed at the wrong element is flagged before anyone reviews it. Only owners and admins can connect a workspace, and every call is logged in the AI action log.
Who it’s for
The MCP server suits anyone who already works in an AI assistant and wants answers from visitor behaviour without switching tools. Some examples by role:
- CRO and experimentation leads: ask which issue affects the most checkouts, then have the assistant draft a test for the fix with the primary metric and MDE set.
- Growth and performance marketers: ask how visitors from one campaign behave on the landing page compared with the rest, using the same segment filters as the dashboard.
- Product managers: set up a goal and a funnel for a new feature in one message, such as “a goal for visits to /thanks and a funnel from the homepage to signup”.
- UX and UI designers: ask for the most clicked elements on a page and how often a click on each is followed by a conversion.
- Agencies: connect each client workspace and have a saved heatmap view sent every Monday to that site’s Slack alert channel.
Examples by industry
The same tools answer different questions depending on the site. A few examples:
- Online stores: “Do shoppers who click the size guide on product pages buy more than the page average?” The answer compares conversions after each clicked element with the page’s own rate.
- SaaS: “Show me recordings of visitors who rage-clicked the plan toggle on /pricing this week,” followed by a draft test that makes the toggle clearer.
- Lead generation and service businesses: “Which field on the quote form do people abandon most?” Form analytics report time, hesitation, refills and drop-off per field, and never the values typed.
Our guides to click maps and A/B testing explain the data behind these answers.
How to start in Cuttl
Open Connect AI in app.cuttl.io, choose your assistant and follow its steps. The MCP server page lists the setup for each assistant, including the Claude Code command.
A good first question is a read-only one, such as “What are the top three issues on my site this week, and how many visitors do they affect?” Once you’re happy with the answers, grant write permissions under AI approvals and ask for a draft test. You can also try it from the heatmaps in Journey Insights: save a view, then ask the assistant to send it every Monday.
Conversions by clicked element show what happened after a click, so they describe a correlation and can’t tell you the click caused the conversion. Assistants can never change privacy, consent, retention, integrations or webhooks, create share links, delete visitor data, or manage the team or keys.
