### What is MCP?

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets AI assistants connect to other software. Cuttl runs an MCP server at https://app.cuttl.io/mcp, so assistants such as Claude and ChatGPT can read your Cuttl data and, with approval, do work in Cuttl.

### Which AI assistants work with Cuttl?

Claude (desktop app and web), ChatGPT (paid plans, developer mode), Cursor, VS Code, Claude Code and Gemini CLI, plus any other tool that supports MCP sign-in.

### How do I connect my assistant?

Open Connect AI in Cuttl and pick your assistant. In Claude (desktop app or web), add Cuttl as a custom connector. In ChatGPT, add a custom MCP server in developer mode. Cursor and VS Code have one-click install links. In Claude Code, run the command on this page, then type /mcp to sign in. Each one signs in with your Cuttl account.

### Do I need an API key?

No. You sign in with your Cuttl account through OAuth, so there is no key to copy or paste. API keys are still available for scripts.

### Can the AI change my website without me?

No. Nothing changes until someone approves it in Cuttl, unless you choose to auto-approve low-risk drafts. Launches, edits to live tests, custom code, deletes, anything visitors see and changes to what gets recorded (such as internal IPs) always need a person.

### What data does the assistant see?

The analytics of the workspace it is connected to, such as sessions, heatmaps, issues, funnels and test results. Personal data in page text is masked, and a connection only sees its own workspace.

### What can an assistant never do in Cuttl?

It can’t change privacy, consent or retention settings, integrations or webhooks, create share links, delete visitor data, or manage the team or API keys.

### Is the MCP server included in my plan?

The MCP server is on Pro and Max, for both Journey Insights and Web Experiments. Its tools for the Visitors list and profiles are on Max only. On the free plan, an assistant can only set up a site: add it, get its Cuttl Tag and check the Cuttl Tag is working.
