Session length now counts active time, AI assistants can set up a site, and A/B results, heatmaps and the visual editor get 16 more updates.

## What’s new

Eighteen updates reached Cuttl between 14 and 28 October 2026. The biggest: session length now counts active time everywhere, and an AI assistant can add a site, give you its Cuttl Tag and check the install. All are live now, and most are on every plan, Free included.

- Journey Insights: active session time, form drop-off by field, heatmaps on sticky headers, blocked requests labelled, GA4-style channels, funnels in Reports, element filters, hover pauses, observation screenshots, iframes and canvas.
- Web Experiments: clearer A/B verdicts and guardrails, faster results, a visual editor panel that fits the selected element, smoother widget editing, an emergency stop and a lighter Cuttl Tag on sites with no test.
- Setup through your AI assistant, and a calendar date picker in the dashboard.

## Journey Insights updates

- Session length is active time. Every place that shows a session’s length now counts scrolling, clicking and typing, plus up to a minute after each, and reading up to a tab switch. A tab left open over lunch no longer counts as an hour-long session. Recordings show both, for example “2m active (40m start to end)”. Sessions from 28 October on.
- Form drop-off names the field. The Form drop-off issue says how many sessions started a form and left, and where most of them stopped, for example 12 sessions abandoned Checkout, most at phone. Each session counts once, and it takes two sessions to make an issue.
- Heatmaps on pages with sticky headers. As you scroll, dots slide under a sticky menu bar, cookie bar or chat button the way page content does, and clicks on the sticky bar stay on it. Long pages no longer freeze while drawing.
- Requests blocked by the visitor’s ad blocker are labelled “Not an error” in recordings and no longer count as network errors in error groups, issues or reports. A 4xx or 5xx answer is still an error.
- Channels and operating systems follow GA4’s rules in three more cases: utm_medium=organic counts as Organic search, “e-mail” spellings count as Email, and an iPad asking for desktop sites shows iOS. Sessions from 28 October on.
- Funnels live in Reports. The old Funnels page and the funnel report are one feature, so a funnel shows the same number in Reports, as an A/B test metric and in the email digest. Funnels count unique visitors by default, or sessions.
- Filter by a clicked element. On paid plans, segments can pick visitors who clicked, rage-clicked or dead-clicked a specific element, chosen by its text, for example everyone who rage-clicked Apply coupon.
- The hover map now shows where the cursor rests as well as where it moves. Desktop only.
- Observations on a heatmap can keep a screenshot of what was on screen.
- Pages inside an iframe on your site are tracked as their own session, marked “in a frame”, and charts drawn on a canvas now appear in recordings and heatmaps.

The October heatmap updates cover the heatmap features that shipped earlier in the month.

## Web Experiments updates

- A/B verdicts wait for enough data. With the default Bayesian statistics, a test says “Too early to tell” until it has run 7 days with 1,500 unique visitors, at least 100 in each version, and enough conversions. Its planned end is the first daily check that meets those minimums and the visitors the planner asked for. A winner needs 95% at the planned end and 99.9% before it, stricter when more versions are compared.
- Guardrails say a version got worse and that a drop past your limit can’t be ruled out, and show no figures while a test is too early. Guardrails are on Max.
- The Statistics step warns that a new design can do better at first only because it is new, so check the Daily view before you ship a winner.
- Results show within about 3 seconds. A test you opened before shows its last results at once, with a note saying how old they are, and updates by itself.
- The visual editor’s panel shows the settings that fit the selected element: an image gets Upload image, the Library, an address and alt text; a link gets its address and “Open in a new tab”. Uploads take PNG, JPEG, GIF or WebP files up to 20 MB, so compress large photos first.
- Widgets are easier to edit. Clicking a pop-up selects it without moving it, a top or bottom bar makes room for itself instead of covering the page, and corner widgets stack.
- Emergency stop: one switch, for admins, stops every Cuttl script on every site in the workspace at once, and turning it off resumes everything.
- On a site with no test running, the Cuttl Tag leaves out the code that runs tests. Start a test and it is added by itself, with nothing to change on your site.

The guides to statistical significance and how long to run an A/B test explain the thresholds behind the new verdicts.

## Setup through your AI assistant, and the dashboard

An AI assistant connected to Cuttl can now set up a site from start to finish, on every plan. Ask Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor to add your domain, and it adds the site, gives you its Cuttl Tag and checks the install. A coding assistant such as Cursor or Claude Code can add the tag to your page’s head itself. If its connection isn’t allowed to add sites, it gives you a link to Add a site with the details filled in. A person still turns on Journey Insights or Web Experiments. Every tool also has a plain name in approval prompts, such as “Add a site”. The Cuttl MCP server page shows how to connect.

In the dashboard, custom dates open a calendar where you click two days in either order, and “today” follows the site’s time zone. Sign-in codes show clear “Verifying…” and “Verified” steps, and site and test IDs copy with one click.

## Who it’s for

- CRO leads: read a test’s verdict without worrying that it ended on a day it was still short of data.
- Marketers: compare Cuttl’s channel numbers with GA4’s, and build test versions with uploaded photos without a developer.
- UX designers: read heatmaps on pages with a sticky header and see where the cursor rests.
- Developers: see real errors without ad-blocker noise, and install Cuttl from a coding agent.
- Product managers: trust session length when sorting recordings, and find the form field where sign-ups stop.

## By industry

- Online stores: the Form drop-off issue shows which checkout field loses most shoppers, and the emergency stop takes every test off at once if checkout breaks.
- SaaS: funnels from pricing to sign-up show the same number in Reports, in an A/B test and in the digest.
- Lead generation: on a paid plan, filter recordings to visitors who dead-clicked the quote button, then watch what they tried next.
- Publishers: active session time separates real reading from tabs left open in the background.

## How to start in Cuttl

In app.cuttl.io, open Journey Insights, then Recordings, and sort by Longest to see active time. Then open Issues for Form drop-off, and Reports, then Funnels, for your saved funnels. In Web Experiments, open any test to see the new verdict and the results timing. For setup through an assistant, connect it from Connect AI and ask it to add your site. The Journey Insights and Web Experiments pages cover the rest of each product.

## Common questions

### What is active time in session length?

It is the time a visitor was scrolling, clicking or typing, plus up to a minute after each action, and reading up to a tab switch. Time in a hidden tab never counts.

### Why is Cuttl’s average session length shorter than other tools?

Cuttl counts active time, while many tools count from the first to the last hit, which includes tabs left open in the background.

### Can an AI assistant install Cuttl?

Yes. A connected assistant can add the site, get its Cuttl Tag and check the install. A coding assistant can also add the tag to your page. A person turns on Journey Insights or Web Experiments.

### Are these updates on the free plan?

Most are, including active session time, form drop-off, the heatmap changes, AI setup and the emergency stop. Guardrails and multivariate tests are on Max, and some segment filters on Pro and Max.

### Likelihood to convert: find the sessions that nearly converted

### What is form analytics? Find the field where visitors give up

### What is a holdout group, and why keep one after you ship a test?
